Bringing your newborn into the studio for their first portrait session is such a special milestone. But between feedings, diapers, and sleepless nights, getting ready might feel like just another thing on your list.
That’s why I created this easy newborn session prep checklist so Inland Empire families can walk into my Yucaipa studio feeling calm, confident, and ready to enjoy the experience.
Whether you’re coming from Redlands, Beaumont, or anywhere in the Inland Empire, this guide will help your session go smoothly and result in heirloom artwork you’ll treasure forever.
Newborn Photography Prep Checklist
1. Keep Baby Awake Before the Session
A little stimulation like a bath or some light play about 1–2 hours before your session can help your baby sleep peacefully during photos.
2. Feed Baby Right Before the Session
Whether you’re nursing or bottle-feeding, a full belly helps baby stay content and cozy. I have a comfortable nursing space ready if you’d like to feed upon arrival.
3. Dress Baby in Easy-to-Remove Clothing
Avoid onesies or anything that pulls over the head. A zip-up or snap-front sleeper is perfect for undressing baby without waking them.
4. Bring a Pacifier (If You’re Open to It)
Even if your baby doesn’t typically use one, a pacifier can be helpful to soothe them during transitions. I only use it briefly and gently when needed.
5. Keep Your Bag Simple
Pack a few diapers, wipes, extra milk (if bottle-feeding), and a change of clothes—for baby and for you. I’ve got all the blankets, wraps, props, and baby-safe accessories you’ll need.
