If you’re heading into your senior year at Yucaipa High School, you may already be wondering when to book senior pictures. It can feel like you have plenty of time, but between football games, school events, college applications, time with friends, and all those senior-year milestones, the months have a way of disappearing quickly.
Senior portraits are one of those things that can easily get pushed down the list. Then suddenly, you’re looking at the calendar wondering when you’re going to fit them in.
One of the questions I hear most from families is, “When should we actually schedule senior pictures?”
My answer is almost always the same: earlier than you think.
Not because I want you to rush into anything, but because planning ahead gives us more options and makes the whole experience feel so much more relaxed.
When to Book Senior Pictures Around Important Deadlines
Before choosing a session date, think about what you want to use your photos for.
Are you hoping to submit one to the yearbook? Will you be ordering graduation announcements? Do you want printed portraits or an album ready before graduation?
Those dates can help us work backward and figure out when your session should happen.
If you’re working around a Yucaipa High School yearbook deadline, make sure you confirm the current submission date with the school. Deadlines can change from year to year, and I never want a family planning around an outdated date.
Graduation announcements are another thing to consider. If you want to send them several weeks before graduation, we’ll need enough time for your session, editing, image selection, and anything you’d like to have printed.

And that’s something that’s really important to me.
I don’t want your senior portraits to become another collection of digital files that gets downloaded and forgotten. I want you and your family to actually enjoy them, whether that’s in an album, framed in your home, or shared with the people you love.
Giving ourselves enough time makes that possible.
How Much Time Should You Allow After Your Session?
Your session is only one part of the process.
After we take your photos, I carefully work through your images and prepare your gallery. Then there’s time for choosing favorites and ordering any artwork or products you’d like to have.
As a general guideline, I recommend having your senior portraits taken at least six to eight weeks before you need everything finished.
More time is always helpful, especially during the busiest parts of senior season.
The last thing I want is for you to feel like we’re racing against a deadline. Senior pictures should be something you get to look forward to.
Summer Sessions
Summer can be such a great time for senior pictures, especially if you love the idea of having everything done before senior year gets busy.
You can plan your session without working around homework, sports, school events, and everything else that comes once classes begin.
Of course, summers in the Inland Empire can get hot, so the time and location of your session really matter. We can choose locations and times that help us work around the heat and keep the experience comfortable.
Places like Oak Glen can also give us a completely different setting from what you might expect around Yucaipa.
Summer is especially helpful for seniors who know they’ll need their portraits early in the school year.

Fall Sessions
There’s a reason fall is such a popular season for senior portraits.
The temperatures start to change, outfits can have a little more texture and layering, and the landscape takes on a completely different feel.
It’s also one of the busiest times of year.
If you’re dreaming about a fall session, I recommend reaching out well before fall actually arrives. Waiting until September to start planning can mean having fewer dates to choose from.
This is especially important if you’re trying to have your portraits finished in time for a yearbook deadline.
Planning early gives us time to think about your location, outfits, and what you want your photos to feel like without rushing any of those decisions.
Spring Sessions
Spring has a completely different energy.
Graduation finally feels close, the landscape begins changing again, and there’s so much excitement about what’s coming next.
It’s also a wonderful time to incorporate your cap and gown, college gear, or anything else that celebrates where you’re headed after high school.
If your main priority is graduation announcements or simply documenting the end of senior year, a spring session may be exactly what you’re looking for.
Just remember that spring calendars can fill quickly too. Between school activities, prom, graduation events, and family schedules, those last few months of senior year tend to disappear faster than anyone expects.

When to Book Senior Pictures for Each Season
So, when to book senior pictures depends partly on the season you want and when you need your finished photographs.
For most families, I recommend reaching out two to four months before the season you’d like to photograph in.
If you’re hoping for summer portraits, start thinking about booking toward the end of junior year.
For a fall session, I’d reach out during the summer rather than waiting until school starts.
And if spring feels more like you, winter is a good time to start the conversation.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you contact me.
You don’t need your outfits picked.
And you don’t need to know exactly where you want to go.
That’s something we can work through together.
Booking early simply gives us more room to create a session that feels intentional instead of trying to fit everything into whatever date is left.
What Season Is Best for Senior Pictures?
There really isn’t one “best” season.
I think the better question is: Which season feels most like you?
Maybe you love summer dresses and relaxed outdoor portraits. Maybe fall layers feel more like your style. Or maybe you’ve been waiting for that cap-and-gown photo because graduation is the moment you really want to remember.
Your senior portraits don’t need to look like anyone else’s.
They’re about documenting you, exactly as you are during this season of your life.
That’s one of my favorite things about photographing seniors. Years from now, these images won’t just show you what you looked like. They’ll bring you back to who you were, what you loved, and what you were dreaming about before everything changed.

Ready to Book Your Senior Session?
If you’re still wondering when to book senior pictures, my best advice is to give yourself more time than you think you’ll need. Senior year goes by quickly, and planning ahead gives us the freedom to make thoughtful choices without adding another last-minute task to your calendar.
You don’t need to have every detail planned today. We can figure out the timing, location, outfits, and little details together.
If you’re looking for a Yucaipa Senior Photographer, I’d love to help you create senior portraits that feel like you and give your family something meaningful to hold onto long after graduation.
