This maternity photography session, recently featured by the National Association of Portrait and Child Photographers in Inspired Magazine, was created using a moody, intentional style that relies on dramatic light and shadow to tell a deeper story. From the beginning, the goal was to create something quiet, emotional, and meaningful—everything I believe maternity photography should be.
Interestingly, the moody aesthetic wasn’t just a creative choice. It was a requirement for submission to Inspired Magazine, which made the process even more meaningful.
This year, the National Association of Portrait and Child Photographers (NAPCP) featured my work in Inspired Magazine—an incredible honor. Even now, it still feels surreal to say that out loud.
For those unfamiliar, Inspired Magazine is a thoughtfully curated publication that showcases some of the most heartfelt and intentional portrait and child photography from around the world. Sharing space with so many talented, passionate photographers feels both humbling and deeply affirming.
The image selected came from a maternity session that has stayed with me. Soft lighting, quiet strength in her pose, and the timeless beauty of motherhood all came together in one of those rare, magical moments behind the lens. It wasn’t just a photograph—it was a story of anticipation, strength, and deep love.
One of the things I loved most about this session was how relaxed and natural everything felt. Many moms worry about what to wear or how to pose beforehand, which is exactly why I created a guide on how to prepare for your maternity session to help the experience feel calm and enjoyable from the beginning.
Joining NAPCP has been one of the most meaningful investments in my photography journey. This organization goes far beyond recognition or awards. At its core, NAPCP fosters a community centered on connection, education, and support for photographers who value legacy-driven imagery.
Through NAPCP, I’ve gained access to:
This feature in Inspired acknowledges my work while reflecting the values I hold close: storytelling, craftsmanship, and the importance of tangible, printed memories.
My goal with maternity photography has never been perfection alone — it’s about preserving genuine connection and emotion. That same heart-centered approach is why lifestyle family sessions often feel more meaningful than traditionally posed portraits.
When you choose to work with me, you’re choosing more than someone with a camera. You choose a photographer who continually learns, grows, and holds herself to high professional standards.
This feature represents the same care and intention I bring to every session—whether I’m photographing a new life, a growing family, or a child discovering who they are. Most importantly, it’s a celebration of the families who trust me with their most meaningful moments.
Seeing these images featured was incredibly special, but what matters even more is knowing these moments will live beyond a screen. There’s something powerful about holding your memories in your hands, which is why I believe so strongly in printed photographs and heirloom artwork.
Thank you to NAPCP for seeing something special in this piece. And thank you to my incredible clients—you are the heart behind everything I create.
With a grateful heart,
Kaitlyn Kellar

If you’re ready to preserve your family’s story through timeless, printed artwork, I would love to create something meaningful with you. Whether you’re planning a maternity, newborn, cake smash, or family session, let’s design images your family will treasure for generations.
Sessions like this are more than beautiful portraits — they become part of a family’s story. For many families, maternity portraits also become one of the most meaningful Mother’s Day gifts because they celebrate motherhood before baby even arrives.
